Each pick on this list has been tested by our editors, so we've had firsthand experience with its grilling capabilities and whether or not it's worth the price. A grill upgrade can make all the difference in your summer hosting and cooking, so it's smart to shop while the deals are hot.

Genesis SX-335 Smart Grill

The convenience of a propane grill meets the convenience of smart controls with the Genesis grill from Weber. Pair it with Weber’s app on your smartphone to set timers, set and receive target temperature alerts, and monitor meat probes for internal temps. The three burners on the grill heated up evenly in our testing, while a fourth burner proved an effective sear zone.

The smart features set this grill apart from the competition since being able to control your grill from your phone is the ultimate convenience.

Oakford 790 Wifi Pellet Grill Smoker in Black

Another option that gives you the ability to control your grill via a smartphone app, this Nexgrill pick is a pellet option our editors were fans of after testing. The app gives you the ability to set and manage temperatures for the grill, but you can still use the control panel on the side of the grill if you so choose.

The sturdy construction of the pellet grill was another plus for us. And the front fold-down shelf creates a large, useful surface for plates and utensils when it's down.

Pro 575 Pellet Grill and Smoker

With WiFi connectivity that gives you access to grill and meat temperatures on your smartphone, Trager’s Pro 575 grill and smoker lets you truly set it and forget it. This model is compact enough to not take up too much space on your deck or patio but keeps a large cooking surface.

The build quality is excellent, plus the double smoking and grilling capabilities and large cooking surface round it out as our best overall grill and smoker. Traeger cookers can get pricey, so it’s nice to see this one on sale.

Spirit II E-210 Gas Grill

If you’ve got limited space for your grill, the Weber Spirit II is a smart buy. The shelves on the side don’t make it easy to roll around, but it won’t take up much surface area on your patio. The cast-iron grid sits above large inverted V-shaped deflectors to keep drippings off the burners, and generously sized stainless-steel side shelves give you an ample surface for food prep.

We also found the assembly to be straightforward during testing. It’s a traditional gas grill that we’re excited to see fall under $100.

1666 Griddle Flat-Top Grill

Blackstone’s flat-top grill is a portable option, making it great for beach cookouts, tailgates, and car camping. It's on the small side, with a 22-inch grill surface, but it's enough space to accommodate a steak or burgers on one end and veggies on the other.

There's a draining hole in the back of the cooktop for grease management, similar to the rest of Blackstone’s lineup. While it's a portable option, it still weighs 38 pounds, so keep that in mind.

Rambler Portable Charcoal Grill

This grill was a “sleeper” in our tests for a few reasons: First, we found it easy to grill with direct or indirect heat. We were also able to quickly and easily raise and lower the charcoal tray. Sure, it’s a heavier pick, considering it’s meant to be portable, weighing nearly 50 pounds—but you can’t beat the cast-iron grill grates that give your burgers, meats, and more that signature charcoal, smoky flavor.

Ironwood 885 Pellet Grill and Smoker

A hybrid grill and smoker, this Traeger pick can connect to WiFi and digital thermostat temperature controls, bringing the grill into the 21st century of smart connectivity. It’s a pricey piece, but for hosts looking to feed a crowd, it’s the best of the best.

It has a massive 885 square-inch cooking surface and a large 20-pound pellet hopper, so you can smoke for a full day without refilling. Monitoring the grill’s internal temps and food temps on your phone means you can enjoy the cookout even while you’re on grill duty.

Kettle Joe

A Kamado grill is a versatile outdoor oven that functions as a grill, of course, but also as a smoker, roaster, or even a pizza oven. This 22-inch pick has two-level grates and is on a rolling cart, so you can move it around as needed.

The grill has a built-in charcoal basket and fire box, which can be removed for easy cleaning. Plus, foldable side shelves give you a good amount of prep space, too.

Spirit II E-310 3-Burner Liquid Propane Grill

The user-friendly assembly was a major selling point for us during our testing of this grill. It’s an ideal pick for the everyday griller, with three versatile and easy-to-use cooking zones. Cooking throughout was mostly even, and we were impressed with the build quality of the grill.

Portable Venture Gas Grill

Even though it looks like a picnic basket, this portable grill is an editor-favorite. It took less than a minute for us to set up the three pieces, and it's just as easy to pack up. It has a single 9,000-BTU burner fueled by a 16-ounce propane canister (which conveniently stores in the base).

For smaller foods like hot dogs, burgers, or sausages, the small grill does the trick. It’s convenient to turn on and off throughout an afternoon or evening of cooking.
