Fort Collins vegan restaurant closes after seven months at Foothills mall

Native Foods closed Sept. 29 after seven months at Foothills mall in Fort Collins.

Au revoir, plant-based chicken tenders and tofu ham.

Native Foods, a fast-casual vegan restaurant chain that came to Fort Collins' Foothills mall earlier this year, shuttered Friday, according to a sign posted in its window Monday.

"Unfortunately, this month it was necessary for us to make a very tough decision to close," the sign read, directing diners to Native Foods' location in Glendale, which will remain open.

The restaurant, 3300 S. College Ave., opened in the former home of Smashburger on the western edge of the mall in late February. At the time it was Native Foods' fourth Colorado location.

Today, Glendale is the chain's only remaining Colorado location, according to the Native Foods website.

Native Foods had not responded to the Coloradoan's requests for comment as of 3 p.m. Wednesday.
