Paulina Porizkova gave fans an update after recently undergoing a "long overdue" double hip replacement surgery. The 58-year-old former supermodel revealed on social media last week that the cartilage in her hips had worn down to the point that there was none left, as a result of being born with congenital hip dysplasia.

"The three doctors I’ve visited all recoiled when they saw my X-rays," Porizkova wrote in a Jan. 27 Instagram post. "'Well, it’s bone on bone,' they exclaimed. 'At least we know you’re good with pain tolerance!'" she added, of the prognosis.

Now seven days post-op, Porizkova posted a follow-up post showing the "gnarly" scars on both of her hips; noting that heading into the surgery, she couldn't help but thinking about the toll it would take on her body. Though she embraces the scars she already has, she says she had no desire to make new ones.

"When I shopped for orthopedic specialists, I did factor in the way in which they made incisions," she explained in the caption. "After surgery, the incisions were covered for three days. 'It’ll look gnarly when you remove the dressings,' [Dr. Roy Davidovitch] cautioned me. So pre-warned, I found the incisions mostly—interesting?"

"I know the incisions will soon become a part of me," Porizkova continued. "They will be a reminder of old pain and new victories. They will join all of the other inscriptions on my body and mind—both visible and invisible—all of which, ultimately, will be the glue that holds me together, a netting of past fractures which have healed stronger. They will become a part of what constitutes the map of me."

"And like all other scars on my outside and inside, I will accept them," she added. "I will be proud of them. But I have no intention of courting new ones."

In 1984, Porizkova, who was born in Czechoslovakia, became the first Central European to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. At the height of her modeling career, she appeared in advertising campaigns for high-profile brands such as Chanel, Versace, Hermes, Christian Dior, Oscar De La Renta, Ann Taylor, and Revlon; as well as walking the runway for Calvin Klein.

More recently, she appeared on the panel of judges on America's Next Top Model from Cycle 10 through Cycle 12 alongside Tyra Banks, Nigel Barker, and J. Alexander.

With any luck, her recovery will be a speedy one.
