Matt James is always staying active — even in the air.

On Sunday, the former Bachelor star and marathon runner, 31, posted a TikTok of him attempting to walk a mile on an airplane while in the air.

Before starting his stopwatch he said in the video that he fueled up on a lot of carbs and stretched properly. "Just broke the world record for fastest mile recorded in an airplane 🏅✈️🏃🏾‍♂️💨," he captioned the video.

James, who ran the 2023 New York City Marathon, explained that he started off his walk with a lap to the back of the plane to get a Biscoff cookie. He said that most people on the plane were asleep so he had no problem working his way through the aisles.

"Even the flight attendants were rooting for me and helping me keep track of my laps," said James, who walked the mile in 18 minutes and 15 seconds. He added that he walked around 50 laps in order to hit the mile.

"Does this count as altitude training??" he added in the caption.

"Walking and moving on flights helps keep your blood flow going and prevent blood clots," he continued. "Victory meal, chicken and rice."

On social media, James has been outspoken about his passion for running and moving his body. In November 2023, he posted an Instagram reel debriefing running the New York City Marathon. "If you ran, congratulations! If you cheered, thank you! If you didn’t do either, pick one for next year 🙂," he captioned the post.

In his first post after the marathon, he encouraged people to get up and get active. "Give me a mile," he said. "You can walk it, run it, treadmill, stationary bike, just give me something. Give me 10 minutes, 15 minutes. I guarantee you're going to feel better.

In April 2021, the former college football player told PEOPLE that he turned to running as an outlet for his mental health.

"Everything that has been going on in my life and everything that's gone on in the country over the past year — from a social justice and from a COVID standpoint — exercise is something that's kept my mental health in the right place," James told PEOPLE of his partnership with Dick's Sporting Goods.

"A lot of people have therapists, and that's something I've explored and it's been extremely helpful," he continued. "Another way of having that peace of mind for me is exercising because when I'm taking care of myself from a physical standpoint, it cycles into the mental."

The North Carolina native admits he didn't do much running while filmingThe Bachelor, which aired January 2021.

"I'm not going to lie, it was kind of cold," he said. "I had a skateboard ramp, so I was doing a lot of skateboarding. But the exercise facilities there are top-notch so I was a serial Peloton-er. I was on my Peloton bike a lot. And when it wasn't terribly cold, I would get out there and run."

James called the sport "one of my favorite activities" because "it doesn't have to look like one thing."

"I think a lot of people have a preconceived notion of what a runner looks like," the reality star said. "There's not a prototypical runner. Everyone looks like a runner and everyone can enjoy it. It's an inclusive thing, and that's why I enjoy it so much."
