Forget a Crow’s Nest. This 207-Foot Explorer Yacht Concept Has Its Own Pop-Up Observatory.
Finn Berg may have just joined the marine industry, but he’s already making waves.
The budding British yacht designer, who will soon receive a bachelor’s degree in automotive and transport design from Coventry University in the U.K., has unveiled a new explorer yacht concept with an exciting, industry-first feature.

Christened EXO-X, the 207-footer is equipped with a telescopic “observatory elevator” that shoots up from the hardtop to provide seafarers with uninterrupted, panoramic views. From this high vantage point, guests can partake in whale watching or dolphin spotting, for instance. The elevator, which Berg says has not yet appeared on any other yacht, isn’t the only way to soak in the surroundings, either. The lower deck is home to an underwater viewing lounge that provides cinematic vistas of the world beneath the waves.
EXO-X is first and foremost an explorer, though. As Berg puts it, “This is a yacht to take you places.” The go-anywhere cruiser features a near-vertical bow and a robust hull to help it slice through the waves. Berg envisions the yacht with a “future-proofed” propulsion system that includes methanol fuel cells. Some yards are already experimenting with such setups to curb emissions but have not yet rolled them out. With a multipurpose layout, EXO-X is conducive to private exploration, charters, or even scientific expeditions. In fact, the main deck is outfitted with a laboratory in which a team can execute research.
Evoking refined Japanese design, the elegant interiors are adorned with sleek, contemporary furniture, striking artwork, and statement lighting. The luxe accommodations can sleep up to 12 guests, with the owner’s suite distinguished by generous proportions and a giant window. Heading to the main deck, gullwing doors connect the salon to the aft cockpit. Further toward the stern lie a circular swimming pool and a garage that can hold two 30-foot tenders, a couple of Jet Skis, and a rescue boat. At the opposite end, a couple of sun pads occupy a prime position in the bow. Other highlights include an aft helipad and a sundeck with a scenic lounge.
Berg, who will officially graduate in July, developed EXO-X in his final year of university. It is the first concept the Brit has shared publicly, though he plans to churn out plenty more now that he has launched his eponymous studio. We certainly appreciate a disruptor.
