Forecaster: "Major Snowstorms" To Impact The West Later This Month

Direct Weather, known on YouTube for his concise bits of weather content, predicts that a major storm could dump serious snowfall across the North American West later this month -- a boon to would-be early-season skiers.

Here's the rundown.

There are two significant takeaways from this video.

First, California -- the Sierra Nevadas in particular -- are the frontrunners when it comes to predicted snowfall totals. Direct Weather's models call for two to four+ feet of snow in the Sierra Nevadas mid-month around the 16th.

The Cascades hold a strong second place, receiving one to two feet of snow. The model indicates that the Northern Rockies will benefit too, with Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado looking at a more humble (yet still exciting) 10+ inches of snow.

Second, as Direct Weather notes, this is a long-range forecast that caps out on November 16th -- 10 days is eons in the meteorological world. And the further you try to predict into the future, the harder it becomes to nail weather outcomes with 100% accuracy. Thus, keep that grain of salt on hand.

That said, Direct Weather isn't some random guy throwing dart boards at a wall, hoping that something sticks. He's relying on real meteorological tools to understand what the weather could do in the coming weeks.

And for my part, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Two to four+ feet of snow for the Sierras? Around a foot of snow for the northern Rockies? Sign me up. It's been looking a little barren in my corner of the country, and I think we're overdue for a powdery reset.
