Ford’s New Mustang Mach-E Rally Is Ready to Take on the Dirt

Ford’s new Mustang Mach-E was designed to be taken off the beaten path.

The Detroit giant has just unveiled an all-terrain version of its popular EV called the Rally. The crossover has received several modifications that make it as comfortable in the dirt as it is on the road.

The Mustang Mach-E Rally’s design upgrades may all seem minor in isolation but combine to give the vehicle a sportier air than ever before. The most notable change is the revised front fascia, which features a unique splitter, built-in fog lamps, and a recovery port with an included hook If you ever get stuck in the mud. Other modifications include protective underside shielding, a Focus RS-inspired rear wing, and a set of 19-inch white rally wheels wrapped in 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires. Rounding out the variant-specific details are a pair of racing stripes and decals.

The upgrades don’t stop there. The variant features a tuned version of the GT Performance Edition’s dual-motor power train that pumps out 480 horses and 650 ft lbs of twist, which is the same amount of horsepower but 16 more ft lbs of torque than before. The GT Performance Edition was designed for open roads, but the Rally was engineered to be quick and agile over rough terrain no matter the weather. It even comes with a model-specific RallySport Drive Mode to aid off-road performance that can be triggered from the untouched interior’s infotainment system. Unfortunately, this style of driving takes its toll on battery performance. Ford estimates that the EV can be driven 250 miles between charges, which is significantly lower than the standard Mach-E’s 312-mile range (but better than the GT Performance Edition’s 235-mile range).

The Rally’s suspension has been lifted so that it provides an additional 0.8 inches of ground clearance. It also comes equipped with tuned springs and MagnaRide shocks. There are also 15.1-inch brake calipers and red Brembo calipers to improve stopping power.
