After an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades, Shaun White officially announced his retirement. The decision to step away from competitive snowboarding came during the initial stages of his fifth Olympic appearance, with White revealing his intention to conclude his competitive journey after the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

At the age of 35, White attributed his retirement to persistent knee and back ailments, which had not only led to his withdrawal from various competitions but also impacted his training regimen. His farewell performance was in the Olympic men's snowboard halfpipe event, where the qualifying rounds took place on Wednesday, February 9, followed by the finals on Friday, February 11.

While White had previously indicated that the Beijing Olympics would mark his final appearance on the Olympic stage, a later announcement signified his departure from competitive snowboarding as a whole.

Reflecting on this pivotal moment, White shared, "Each decision and every competition throughout my career carried a unique significance because I made the conscious choice that this would be my ultimate Olympic venture. I poured my heart and soul into this sport, weathering the highs and lows along the way. But amidst it all, I believe I emerged stronger and better."

But knowing Shaun, and seeing this video recently taken in Saas Fe Switzerland, we are forced to ask ourselves...What if....
