Food trucks with TSA-approved meals now at Fresno’s airport

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A new initiative launched by the Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT), and the City of Fresno has brought taco trucks (and other food trucks) to the airport.

Airport officials say this is a unique two-year program where food trucks will serve their specialty menu items out of Transport Security Administration (TSA) approved containers. This will allow travelers to enjoy their meals preflight or take them on the flight to enjoy there, according to Fresno Yosemite International.

Taco Truck Throwdown returns this October

Airport officials say the two-year program is also designed to provide more food options to travelers during the construction of a new terminal and before new concessions begin.

The City of Fresno says they worked alongside the Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation (FAHF) to help find qualified professional food truck vendors. The first two trucks added to the program were Los Mexicanos Frutas y Antojitos and Tacos Tepa.

According to Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer, it is fitting that the city that hosts the Taco Truck Throwdown should welcome those flying in with delicious food truck cuisine.

“When I travel, I get hungry,” said Mayor Dyer. “I want a variety of food and food I can get quickly and that’s affordable and that’s what these quality food trucks offer here at the airport.”

Dyer says adding the food trucks will benefit many of the 2.5 million people flying in and out of Fresno daily.

Approved vendors will operate at the airport through on a rotating schedule, with no more than two trucks onsite for a maximum term of six months. After six months, a new food truck vendor will begin their term to provide food services.
