How Food Network Star Guy Fieri's Wife Distracted Him From a Fight When They Met

Ever since making his debut on Food Network Star in 2006, Guy Fieri has built quite the culinary empire. As viewers of the cable channel may know, the 54 year old has had multiple food-related series on the famed cable network with his most popular ones being Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Guy's Grocery Games. Throughout his career, he's opened — and sometimes closed — numerous restaurants. Guy's even written cookbooks, filled with recipes that perfectly blend his foodie flare and his Italian roots. But he hasn't done any of this alone. He's been lucky to have his wife Lori Brisson beside him, and their love story is nothing if not the perfect recipe.
Long before Guy became a household name, the Food Network host was busy running restaurants in his home state of California. In 1992, he met his future wife when she came in with a friend who had recently been let go from the establishment. While he was meant to send the friend packing, he noticed Lori, realizing he just met his bride.
"Her friend had been let go from the restaurant, and they weren't supposed to be there," Guy told Delish in 2017. "I was talking to her friend and saying 'Hey, listen, wait a few weeks before you come in,' and standing behind her is this blue-eyed, blonde girl giving me this mean mug."
The two eventually began talking, and Guy learned Lori had moved from Rhode Island to California. He eventually had her over for dinner. "I don't remember what I made, but I do remember it was quite an epic time," he continued to Delish. "The first time I cooked for her, she was just like, 'You made all this?' We both love food, so being able to cook, that was one of the things that impressed her."
Now, you may think that Guy was rocking his iconic bleached hair at this point. But Lori says that wasn't so. In fact, she told People in 2019 that he had a completely different look going when the two met and wed. “When I first met him, he had no goatee. He had dark hair. He wore a suit to work every day,” Lori spilled to the outlet. “Now I look at him and I’m like, ‘Where’s that man I married with the whole clean look?'"
Looks aside, Guy and Lori got married three years later in 1995. The following year, she gave birth to their first child on August 13, 1996. The couple welcomed their son Hunter.
It was around this time that Guy opened his first restaurant, Johnny Garlic's. By the time he won season 2 of Food Network Star a decade later in 2006, he had franchised his eatery. In the meantime, Lori gave birth to their second son, Ryder, on December 31, 2005. With that, their family was complete.
In typical foodie fashion, Guy isn't the only chef in the Fieri household. Hunter recently followed in his father's chef footsteps. He's even been featured in a few episodes of his dad's various TV shows. But the true cook in the house is none other than Lori, who's always whipping up recipes from her childhood on the East Coast.
"[Lori] sautés top sirloin with onions, mushrooms and garlic," Guy said on the Today show in 2018 of his favorite food his wife makes. "And she makes this fantastic gravy and serves it over egg noodles. It's a very simple dish but it's one of my favorites."
So, after nearly 30 years of marriage, what would the two say their secret is a long-lasting relationship? According to Guy, they have learned to follow life's flow together. "My wife and I have gone from being married at a young age to being where we are now — to get here, you have to be willing to adapt and understand," he said on Today. "It's all compromise and understanding."
With that in mind, there's nothing Guy and Lori can't do — or in this case, cook — together.
