‘Food Foray’ docuseries explores global dishes in our own backyard

(PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — In the Republic of Georgia, in Eastern Europe, there is a phrase: supra.

Literally it means to feast, an important part of Georgian culture. But the underlying vibes are the idea of sharing time, life, and connections with loved ones. It places equal importance on not just the delicious food, but the people you share it with.

That idea is the backbone of a new show debuting out of MetroEast Community Media.

“We are using food to explore all these topics and stories,” said Ivana Horvat, director and producer. “People were so open with their cultures in the first three episodes, this has been a story of connection with other humans.”

“We looked for people, our guests, first, then figured out where we would shop,” she added.

“Food Foray,” a new docuseries filmed and produced in East Multnomah County, is an Anthony Bourdain-style exploration of food and culture, with host Jessica Ballard Thiessen visiting international grocery stores and immigrants homes to cook, laugh and connect.
