Flower Power: Tallahassee Garden Club puts the wow into plant extravaganza

The Tallahassee Garden Club will host its annual Plant Extravaganza and Flower Show on Saturday, April 27. The event will feature a Flower Power theme, referencing the slogan from the 1960s associated with the flower children movement which emphasized non-violence, passive resistance, and universal love.

Inside the historic Rutgers House, a National Garden Club Flower Show will showcase floral interpretations of a nostalgic theme, accompanied by the melodic tunes of the '60s. Amidst the ambiance, huge paper flowers and era-defining posters will evoke a sense of timelessness. Participants can experience a room with floral designs illuminated by the glow of black lights, as well as those showcased in the warmth of regular lighting.

In another captivating floral design category, the vibrant Pop Art styles and colors of 60s artists will be featured. Additionally, a botanical arts section will carry the theme of Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in your Hair, presenting imaginative floral arrangements adorning Styrofoam wig stands. The horticultural exhibits will feature a plethora of plants, including perennials, shrubs, houseplants, spring flowers, and plants with decorative foliage.

Outside the Rutgers House, attendees can peruse booths operated by various circles of the Tallahassee Garden Club, where an array of plants propagated by club members will be available for purchase. Participants will have a chance to view hundreds of plants that work well in our plant hardiness zone 9a.

Additional booths will be selling a variety of garden-related products including jams, yard art, painted pots, baskets, gloves, and more. Guests will delight in the affordability of these items, ensuring a rewarding shopping experience for all.

Other circles will be offering food and snacks, while a designated 'Kids' Korner' will spark creativity, inviting young ones to craft paper flowers, paint rocks, and adorn flower pots with their imagination.
