Florida Rescue Searching for Loving Home for Blind and Deaf Great Dane to Spend Her Final Years

When it comes to adopting a pet, some are more challenging than others, and oftentimes the older ones and pets with disabilities are forgotten. Although they make wonderful companions, they just need a little extra care.

That's why the rescue organization, the Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue, is putting a lot of effort into finding a home for Angel, a Great Dane who's blind and deaf, which the staff posted on Facebook on October 27. Let's find out more!

Aw, look at her!

Adopting a deaf and blind dog requires a special commitment and understanding of the unique needs and challenges that come with caring for a pet with sensory impairments.

Angel is between 6 and 7 years old, house-trainedgood on a leash, and loves going on walks. She also has a laid-back personality, which makes her a great candidate for families with kids, and she is just a lovebug who loves to snuggle on the couch.

According to the Facebook post,

"While Angel may be blind and deaf, she most definitely has not let that stop her from living her best life. She has no problem sniffing her away around the house and yard to learn where things are."

This is so heartfelt!

Deaf and blind dogs rely heavily on their other senses, such as touch and smell. Therefore, patience and understanding are crucial as you help them navigate their environment and build trust in their new home.

That being said, creating a safe and consistent environment is essential, such as minimizing changes in furniture placement and keeping potential hazards out of their way to prevent accidents.

It's also important for Angel to have her human always close by, who will continue to crate her at night, as this is her space.
