Flip or Flop’s Christina El Moussa and Ant Anstead can certainly keep a secret. The HGTV personality and her new husband kept their engagement to themselves for three months before marrying in a surprise wedding at their home in Newport Beach on December 22.

“We just didn’t tell anyone,” Anstead told People this week after proposing in September. The engagement took place on the beach after a bike ride along the coast; champagne was prepared. “All of a sudden, he just got on his knee and proposed,” El Moussa recalled. “So yes, I was surprised.”

The pair agreed on approaching the entire wedding planing process differently. (Both were previously married and share children from their prior relationships.) ”It’s different for us now,” El Moussa explained. “We didn’t want all the fuss. Just a quiet wedding without all the drama and paparazzi.”

The couple originally invited their guests under the guise of watching the holiday boat parade. The 70 people would gather at their home where buses would then shuttle everyone to and from the harbor. Instead, a wedding ceremony—floral arch and rows of white chairs—greeted guests upon arrival in the couple’s yard.

According to People, the Wheelers and Dealers host stood beside the officiant and declared to guests, “Got ya!”

Meanwhile, El Moussa made her way down the aisle to a string quartet version of “Stand By Me,” and if any guest needed clarification, they certainly received it in that moment. “Surprise! We’re getting married!” she expressed.

The bride wore a white, lace mermaid gown by Ines Di Santo featuring detachable sleeves. El Moussa carried a bountiful bouquet comprised of lush white and pale pink peonies.

She has since changed her last name from “El Moussa” to “Anstead.”
