Flight Attendant Meets Flamingo Chicks She Helped Rescue on Flight to Seattle

There was some very special cargo on a flight in August from Atlanta to Seattle, unhatched Chilean flamingo eggs that were being flown from Zoo Atlanta to Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo in an incubator.

Mid-flight, a passenger rang their call button and said they needed help, and a flight attendant named Amber answered. It turns out this passenger was the zoo official who was transporting the eggs and the incubator had failed.

People Magazine shared all the adorably heroic actions and reported, "Amber sprung into action. She resolved the issue by filling rubber gloves "with warm water," which the zoo official placed around the eggs. Other passengers offered their coats and scarves to provide "extra insulation" for the makeshift nest.

It's so sweet that other passengers on the plane stepped in to help too.

The chick eggs made it off the flight safely and Amber recently received a call from the zoo asking if she wanted to meet the flamingos she saved.

Amber Meets The Flamingo Chicks She was a Hero To

Amber met the baby flamingos courtesy of Woodland Park Zoo, and she brought her granddaughter Sunny with to see the precious birds. The zoo had a public poll to name the chicks which were named Magdalena, Amaya, Rosales, Gonzo, and Bernardo. The remaining chick was named Sunny in honor of Amber for her granddaughter.

Per a press release the zoo stated  “We are forever grateful for the heroic measures Amber took to help keep our precious flamingo eggs warm and viable,” said Gigi Allianic, from Woodland Park Zoo. “This means the world to our zoo family. They would have been lost if you hadn’t gone above and beyond for us.” The zoo also explained that the adorable birds showcased their fluffy gray feathers and long, skinny legs, with the zoo explaining that the flamingoes’ signature pink color only emerges in adulthood.

Amber said "Having baby Sunny meet flamingo Sunny was just wonderful. I am excited to see them both grow up."

What a wonderful story with such an absolutely wonderful ending. If you would like a chance to see these adorable chicks you can visit the website for the Woodland Park zoo here.
