I tried the Flexispot Q8 standing desk and my home office has never been better

No more sitting down on the job. This electric workstation glides up and down with ease and includes an embedded wireless charger, among other great features.

You know what they say about mattresses: You spend one-third of your life on that thing, so don't cheap out. I'm going to make a similar case for desks: It's where you spend a big chunk of your day, so it should be attractive, versatile and good for your health — meaning able to raise and lower at will so you can alternate between sitting and standing. If you've got the space and budget for it, you should definitely check out Flexispot's Q8 55-inch electric standing desk. I made it my new daytime home a few weeks ago, and I couldn't be happer with it.

Gorgeous to look at and packed with useful features (including a Qi wireless charging pad), Flexispot's Q8 is my current favorite standing desk.

Assembly was a snap thanks to clear printed instructions and included tools. I managed it solo, though it would help to have a second person for flipping and moving the desk when finished. This thing is rock-solid; even on plush carpet, it doesn't wobble in the slightest.

And photos don't do it justice; the bamboo top is absolutely gorgeous (though you can choose other color configurations as well), and the dual motor moves it smoothly and quietly.

The desk measures 55 inches wide and 28 inches deep, a work surface generous enough to accommodate a laptop, a big monitor and even a printer, all side by side. You could probably hop up there as well if you like; the motor can accommodate a whopping 220 pounds.

While some standing desks have limited range, this one can sit as low as 24 inches off the ground or raise as high as 49 inches. Translation: It's good for users anywhere from 4'3" to 6'5" in height.

The Q8 includes three features I absolutely love, starting with an embedded Qi wireless charging pad. It's virtually invisible, completely flush with the desktop surface and detectable only by the wireless symbol etched over it. Lay your phone (or AirPods, etc.) on it and presto, instant charging.

The desk also has two USB charging ports (one USB-C, one USB Type-A) alongside the front control panel, which includes four memory presets and a digital readout to show your selected height in numerical form. These aren't low-powered ports, either; they can produce 45 watts and 18 watts, respectively.

Finally, I love the wide built-in drawer, something you don't often see in standing desks. (We need storage, desk makers!)

My only real complaint is with the somewhat limited cable-management system, which is basically a wide, partially slotted metal tray mounted to the underside of the desk. There are no grommet holes or clips to help reduce cord-clutter up top. My AC outlet resides almost dead-center on the wall behind the desk, and when I'm working in a standing position, there's some pretty ugly cord-clutter underneath.

This isn't uncommon with standing desks, as you need to allow the cords to travel a bit; you can't just strap them into a fixed place or hide them inside a raceway. Still, a desk-mounted power strip or similar solution would be nice, especially given the Q8's price tag.

That's not a dealbreaker for me, though. The Flexispot Q8 is a large, luxurious standing desk that should satisfy anyone seeking a new workstation.
