4 'Fixer Upper' Homes Are Having Trouble Finding Buyers Almost a Year Later

From House Beautiful

Loyal Fixer Upper fans can still remember the day the hit HGTV show aired its last episode in April 2018, and of course, the unexpected moment Chip Gaines excitedly shared that he and Joanna Gaines would be returning to TV in a big way. Since then, viewers have been counting down the days until summer 2020 when the home reno stars will officially debut their own lifestyle TV network.

Although now we only catch glimpses of them on social media and on the Magnolia blog, the Gaines's presence is ever felt in Waco, especially with four of their renovated homes still on the market almost a year later, including the Faceless Bunker, Paw Paw's House, the Dutch Door House, and the Asian Ranch House.

Here's everything you need to know about the Fixer Upper homes still up for sale.

Listed 463 days ago, the Faceless Bunker house from Fixer Upper’s Season 2, Episode 12, has taken a $51,000 price cut after being originally listed for $1,225,000—now with an asking price of $899,000. The 4,113-square-foot home has 4-bedrooms with 3.5-baths and sits on a 1.9-acre property on Cherry Creek Drive, overlooking Lake Waco.

The Fixer Upper duo transformed the Faceless Bunker by adding windows to the front and doing away with the half brick exterior, replacing it with updated siding and a faux balcony. Despite its price cut, the home is still about 380 percent higher than the Waco area’s median sale price of $187,500, according to Realtor.com. And this fact may just be the reason it hasn't found an owner yet.

The same can be said about Paw Paw’s House—the most expensive of the four with a whopping price tag of $1,450,000. The 3-bedroom, 3-bath home is located about 30 minutes away from Waco in Marlin, Texas and sits on 210 acres.

Viewers saw the Magnolia owners tackle the vacant property—originally built by the family's grandfather—in Season 3, Episode 7, when it underwent a $250,000 renovation. The 2,654-square-foot Southwestern-themed residence boasts refinished hardwood floors, concrete countertops, and a stunning copper sink.

And even the most charming Fixer Upper homes, like the Dutch Door House, continue looking for an owner. Featured in Season 2, Episode 2, the 3-bedroom, 2-bath home was originally listed in May 2018 with an asking price of $319,900 and has since been relisted for $349,900.

With a generous renovation budget of $85,000, the HGTV stars re-envisioned the 1940s home with an open floor plan to entertain and host loved ones, beautiful French doors to bring in more natural light, and a new mudroom. But if that's not enough, the property also comes with a guesthouse, currently available to rent on Airbnb.

Yet another one of Chip and Jo’s early Fixer Upper homes went on the market in April. The Asian Ranch House turned French Country Farmhouse was put up for sale for $740,000, but has had several price cuts since then, currently listed for $649,999.

HGTV fans may remember the 4-bedroom, 4.5-bath northern Waco property from Season 2, Episode 13. Although it went through an extensive renovation process worth about $190,000, it’s still hasn’t secured a buyer.

"Just by having the Fixer Upper name in our description, we get a lot of traffic online, which is typically how you sell houses," real estate agent Kristin Clements told Business Insider. "In this case, it’s kind of been different because people are looking at it just because it has a Fixer Upper name on it, not because they can actually afford it."
