Fixer Upper : Chip and Joanna Gaines Announce Their Popular Show’s Return
Fixer Upper fans: Today is your lucky day.
The popular home renovation show from Chip and Joanna Gaines is officially returning to TV. The couple made the announcement with a supercute promo video on Instagram. In it Chip “tricks” his wife into taking a little car trip and says he has a surprise for her…and to not be mad. She notices he’s brought along his tools, and when they arrive at a house, he reveals the big news.
“I signed us up for another season of Fixer Upper,” he says. "I answered the office phone like you told me never to do.”
“Well, can I tell you a little secret? I kind of missed it,” Joanna replies. “Let’s do it.”
The original show aired for five seasons on HGTV until April 2018, and People reports it often brought in 17 million viewers each week. The new incarnation will be a tentpole of the couple’s new Magnolia Network, which was supposed to launch in October but has been pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Everybody knows.. #fixerUpper is where we’ve been and @magnolianetwork is where we’re going! But what if we tied both together as a tribute to this new journey—for old times’ sake,” Chip also tweeted. “Fixer Upper: meet Magnolia Network. Magnolia Network: meet Fixer Upper! Feels pretty good to me..”
“The day we wrapped our final episode of Fixer Upper, we really believed it was a chapter closed,” Chip and Joanna told People about the relaunch. “We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again.
“These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don't think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts,” they continued. “We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!”
The many fans of the show—and of Chip and Joanna—took to social media to express their excitement.
An exact premiere date for the new season of Fixer Upper has not yet been revealed.
