Five things for families to do this weekend: May 23-26

May 23—Looking for something to do with your family this weekend? Check out these activities around the Valley:

1. Southside Fire Company, 270 Avenue D, Riverside, is holding its annual carnival through Saturday. Starting at 5 p.m. daily, there will be rides, games and food until 9 p.m. A new band will be playing nightly at 6 p.m., including RATL today, DRIVE on Friday and the Lucky Afternoon band on Saturday. Also on Saturday is the Toy and Pet Parade at 4 p.m., where participants can dress themselves, their pets, bikes, cars, trucks and more. 2. Let your young naturalists learn about Living Landscapes: Endangered Species and Biodiversity at a program organized by the Merrill W. Linn Land & Waterways Conservancy on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Shikellamy Bluffs, Shikellamy State Park Road, Selinsgrove. Bucknell professors Chris Martine and Claire Campbell and "The Bird Man" Michael Kuriga will lead a three-part program on endangered plant species and biodiversity exploration; peregrine falcons and the environmental impacts that affects birds of prey and natural history and human impacts. There is a suggested donation of $5 and registration is required by going to linnconservancy.org/registration.

3. Head to Catawissa for a Dinosaur Party at the Farm! Pennsylvania Dinosaurs, along with their newest friend Memphis the Triceratops, will be at Rohrbach's Farm Market, Bakery and Barn Loft, 240 Southern Drive, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be photo opportunities, games and more while kids hang out with the dinosaurs. 4. 2024's first Fish-For-Free-Day in Pennsylvania is on Sunday. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission event lets anybody fish without needing a license, though all other fishing regulation apply. Learn more at the commission's website, fishandboat.com/fishing/regulations/pages/default.aspx.

5. A Memorial Day Parade and Service held at Mazeppa Union Church. Parade steps off at 6 p.m. at the lower end of Mazeppa and proceeds to the cemetery. The speaker will be Dick DeVett. Following the service there will be an ice cream social in the community center. If it rains the service will be held in the church.
