The “fist pump” baby is all grown up and he literally saved his dad’s life
Random and awesome news alert! Remeber Success Kid? As in the fist pumping toddler who’s picture went on to inspire countless internet memes? Well it’s been 10 years, and Success Kid just helped save his dad in real life.
Some backstory: Success Kid’s real name is Sammy Griner. He’s 10-years-old, and his dad, Justin, has been battling a genetic kidney disease for several years.
When Justin needed a kidney transplant but couldn’t afford the medical expenses, the family set up a GoFundMe campaign (not mentioning anything about Success Kid). Little did they know that internet sleuths would make the connection, and well, kind of go crazy (in the best way possible). The campaign ended up raising over $100,000 in just a few days, and Sammy’s dad underwent a successful transplant surgery.

Talking to NewStatesman, Sammy expressed nothing but humble gratitude about the whole situation.
“The only thing I’m happy for now with that picture is because it saved my dad from dying. He could’ve died so that’s the only time I’m happy [about the meme] – not when people say, ‘Oh, take a picture with me.’ I’m just happy because I probably wouldn’t have a dad anymore.”
Yeah, it would be kinda weird to have your picture all over the web. But it seems like Sammy is taking it in stride. Also, he has blue hair. And we like!
