The First Trailer for Lena Waithe’s BET Comedy “Twenties” Has Arrived

Adulting is hard.

Lena Waithe debuted the first trailer for her upcoming BET comedy series, Twenties, a series centered on a trio of friends attempting to make it big in Hollywood.

Coming to BET in early 2020, Deadline reports, the series focuses on Hattie, a queer girl, portrayed by Jonica “JoJo” T. Gibbs, and her two straight friends, Marie (Christina Elmore) and Nia (Gabrielle Graham), as they all navigate life in Los Angeles as 20-something-year-old black women. Based on the initial trailer, it appears as if the pals are about to encounter some serious bumps on their path to success, including finding a job that doesn't interrupt Hattie's dreams of becoming a writer, unexpected coffee runs, and one powerful boss.

All doesn't look totally hopeless though, as the friends come to rely on one another and hatch a plan to help them achieve their dreams. The first teaser hints a bit at each of the characters and the show will also feature plenty of laughs and even an attempt at love. For Lena, seeing the project to life is a dream come true. As she previously said in a statement to Deadline, "Twenties has been a project I’ve been dreaming about for as long as I can remember. I think a lot of people were interested, but didn’t see the vision. I’m so grateful Scott Mills and Connie Orlando did. I couldn’t be more excited to deepen my relationship with BET. I know audiences have been waiting a long time for this one."

Below, check out the first peek of the series and stay tuned for an official premiere date.
