When The Handmaid’s Tale hit Hulu in April 2017, TV fans were immediately obsessed. The television adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s feminist dystopian novel is so powerful and timely. With the Trump administration stumbling their way into office, we were reminded that the story is, unfortunately, not too far from reality. The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 quickly went into production and the show won the Emmy for Outstanding Television Drama — something that no streaming site had yet accomplished.

We knew that The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 would premiere sometime in April 2018. And on Friday, January 12th, we caught our first glimpse at pictures at Offred in Season 2. Two days later, on January 14th, we received two gifts: the first trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2, and an official premiere date, April 25th.

The trailer is chilling, emotional, and exciting. It features quick glimpses of the characters we have grown to love (and hate). And it’s set to a truly haunting cover of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.” It’s everything we’ve come to expect from The Handmaid’s Tale.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 will go beyond what Atwood’s book entailed.

Atwood’s novel, originally published in 1985, was the main focus of Season 1. But Season 2 and beyond will be mostly new content. We can’t wait to see where Offred goes from here.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 will assumedly be even more timely this year. And with sexual misconduct at the forefront of our minds and conversations, it may hit too close to home for some. It is important to tell this story, even if it takes place in a fictional world.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 premieres on Hulu on April 25th.
