After more than two years, the wait is almost over. The official trailer for season 3 of Dead to Me dropped ahead of the premiere later this month.

The dramedy, which debuted on Netflix in 2019, follows Jen Harding (played by Christina Applegate) and Judy Hale (played by Linda Cardellini), who meet at a grief group and befriend each other as they navigate the losses of their respective partners. Season 3 will pick up immediately after season 2, which aired in May 2020, when Jen and Judy are both injured in a hit-and-run by a drunk Ben (played by James Marsden). Judging by the first trailer, fans of the show can expect a whole lot more shenanigans from Jen and Judy, as well as a deeper dive by the police and FBI into who killed Judy's ex-fiancé Steve (also played by Marsden).

Season 3 will be the final installment of the Liz Feldmen-created series. Since its premiere, the show has garnered critical acclaim and has received five Emmy nominations, including outstanding lead comedy actress for both Applegate and Cardellini’s performances and outstanding comedy series.

Much attention has been given to the upcoming season since Applegate revealed she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the summer of 2021. In an interview with The New York Times earlier this week, the actress opened up about how filming the last season of Dead to Me with the autoimmune disease was one of the hardest things she ever had to endure.

“I had an obligation to Liz and to Linda, to our story,” she said. “The powers that be were like, ‘Let’s just stop. We don’t need to finish it. Let’s put a few episodes together.’ I said, ‘No. We’re going to do it, but we’re going to do it on my terms.’”

With the premiere just weeks away, Applegate also noted, "This is the first time anyone’s going to see me the way I am. I put on 40 pounds; I can’t walk without a cane. I want people to know that I am very aware of all of that."

While she doesn't think she's going to watch the new season, Applegate is hopeful viewers will enjoy it. "If people hate it, if people love it, if all they can concentrate on is, ‘Ooh, look at the cripple,’ that’s not up to me,” she said. “I’m sure that people are going to be, like, ‘I can’t get past it.’ Fine, don’t get past it, then. But hopefully people can get past it and just enjoy the ride and say goodbye to these two girls.”

Season 3 of Dead to Me is available to start streaming on Netflix beginning November 17. Watch the trailer above.
