In January, Universal Studios Japan announced via press release that it would be opening an exciting new land within its park: Super Nintendo World.

This area, inspired by the iconic Nintendo video games, would immerse guests into a real-life Super Mario game. Super Nintendo World would feature rides, shops, a restaurant, and various interactive gameplay experiences throughout. Using a Power Up Band, guests would be able to tap real-life Question Blocks and collect coins, as they navigate through this colorful fantasy world filled.

Earlier this month, videos recorded from or near Universal Studios Japan zoomed into the new land started circulating on Twitter. From the looks of it, the park is living up to its hype.

In the video below, fans can catch a Piranha Plant snapping from inside a green tube, a glimpse of Bowser's Castle, a spinning Koopa Shell, spinning golden coins, Question Boxes and more.

Another user shared a video of a real-life Thwomp, one of Mario's enemies, moving up and down. Yoshi can be seen waddling around in as well as some revolving golden coins in the background.

In this video taken at night, you'll notice that Thwomp's eyes light up red in the dark. Chills.

Currently, the park's official opening date is unknown as it was delayed due to pandemic and an official opening. According to Nintendo Life, the land may open in the fall or wait until 2021.

Earlier this year Universal Studios Orlando in the U.S. announced that it was creating a new area within its park called Epic Universe. This "Universe" would feature a land dedicated to Super Nintendo as well, making us believe that many features seen in Japan’s Super Nintendo World will be replicated in the Florida park. Epic Universe is also expected to host a land dedicated to How to Train Your Dragon, and another land dedicated to the popular monsters seen in Universal's 1930s to 1950s horror films. Think: Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, the Mummy, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The bad news is that we’ll have to wait until at least 2023 for Epic Universe to open in the States, but in the meantime, we can experience the whimsical world of Super Mario once Japan announces an opening date.
