Take a First Look at PlayStation’s New VR2 Headset and Sense Controller

PlayStation has revealed the design of its next-generation VR headset, the PlayStation VR2. The headset arrived alongside a new PS VR2 Sense controller, with both pieces of hardware taking on a matching “orb” look to represent the 360-degree view of the virtual reality world.

The design was also inspired by the look of the PS5 family of products. “When our design team created the PS5 console, they also had the next generation VR headset in mind so you’ll notice some similarities in the look and feel,” Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, wrote in a blog post.

Since the PS5 console has flat edges to sit evenly on a surface, product designers wanted to emphasize the roundness of the VR2 headset.

“Our goal is to create a headset that will not only become an attractive part of your living room decor, but will also keep you immersed in your game world, to the point where you almost forget you are using a headset or controller,” Nishino continued.

Following a similar process to making the first PS VR headset, designers focused on the ergonomics of the headset and conducted testing to make sure that it felt comfortable on a variety of head sizes. The headset features an adjustable strap for sizing and scope that moves closer or further away from the face. It also has a new adjustment dial to move the lens distance between a user’s eyes.

PlayStation didn’t reveal the price or release date of the headset and controller but noted that PS VR2 development kits are already in the hands of game creators.
