First Look at Nicolas Cage's New Movie, 'The Surfer' (Clip)

Nicolas Cage brings a special kind of crazy to the silver screen.

But unlike other overly dramatic and unrealistic Hollywood “surf” movies, like the ones actors of his cohort – Keanu Reeves (Point Break 1991), Matthew McConaughey (Surfer, Dude 2008) etc. – have starred in, Nicolas Cage is finally adding his name to the lexicon.

The Surfer has just wrapped filming in surfing hotspot (they hold a World Surf League Championship Tour event there every year) Yallingup, Australia, and damn are we not excited to see Nic Cage whup some ass while maybe even sorta surfing, too.

One scene, leaked from filming on set above, shows Cage fighting one of the alleged surfers, brawling with fake punches, wrestling in the water, and even a gun shot.

In case you forgot, here’s the tagline, per Deadline:

“Oscar winner Cage will play a man who returns to Australia to buy back his family home after many years in the U.S. but is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a group of local surfers who claim ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood. Wounded, he defies them and remains at the beach, demanding acceptance. As the conflict escalates, he is brought to the edge of his sanity and his identity is thrown into question.”

Edge of his sanity? Fighting locals? Surfing for vengeance?

Nic Cage was born for this role…and the over 100 others that he has famously and prolifically also been featured in over the years, too. But this one…this one will be good. Or so bad that it’s good, which sometimes is even better than actual good…right?
