The affectionate bio-doc pays tribute to a literary legend.

The literary world can feel fickle, but Judy Blume's five-decades-long career breaks the mold as much as her trailblazing young adult novels.

One of Blume's best-known books, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret was published in 1970 and remains a mainstay on coming-of-age reading lists. It'll also get the big-screen treatment this spring when the movie, Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret hits theaters on April 28.

But another film will hit Prime Video the week before: Judy Blume Forever, a bio-documentary on the impact of the famous author written by Davina Pardo and Leah Wolchok, will stream globally on Prime Video beginning April 21.

The bio-documentary, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January, is several years in the making, according to an interview from Prime Video. Pardo made the initial ask.

"My husband George and I watched Very Semi-Serious [Pardo and Wolchok’s documentary about the New Yorker cartoonists], and eventually, maybe four years later, I finally said to her, 'Let's have breakfast,'" Blume said in a statement. "I liked her, so I said yes. But that was after years of her sending messages and messages. She didn't give up. I really like to see a person who doesn't give up. And Leah, too, I love that woman. I am very fond of both of them. They had done their homework."

We did some homework, too. Here's what we know about Judy Blume Forever and the controversial book by a similar name.

Judy Blume considers herself a feminist. She tweeted a photo of herself in a pink hat at a Women's March in Key West in 2017.

In a 2018 interview with NPR, Blume reflected on generational shifts on art. At the time, the #MeToo movement was gaining momentum after reports of sexual abuse by now-convicted felon movie producer Harvey Weinstein.

"That doesn't mean that women of my generation can't support the #MeToo movement," Blume told NPR. "Where we may differ is, 'Is it OK to enjoy the art of someone who we now know may have been abusive to women?' To me, the answer is yes, I can. And I don't want museums to take away art because we now know that that artist from a different era may have been abusive to women."

Blume added that she would still see Woody Allen movies (many of which feature older characters attracted to teens). Allen famously married his ex-girlfriend's adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn and was accused of molesting his and Mia Farrow's daughter Dylan Farrow.
