First Look: Indonesia’s Dry Season Starts With a Bang

In 2023, with La Nina controlling worldwide weather, Indonesia had a ho-hum dry season. Sure, there were some memorable swells, but they were few and far between.

2024 is already making up for it.

Over the weekend, an early season SW swell slammed into Indo, and basically every marquee wave from the Ments to Bali was firing. While it's not uncommon for the first swell to arrive in March or April, it is unusual for it to be this big, and to coincide with light trades in Bali and clean offshores in the Ments.

Speaking of the Ments: At HTs, a few crew were met with big, scary double ups under bright blue skies. In the clip above, Captain Barrenjoey McGroder rolls the dice on an 8-footer and hits the jackpot. We're fairly sure that no matter what happens from here, his season is already made.

So: Is this swell a sign of even better things to come? Every surfer with an Indo trip booked this year certainly hopes so.
