Netflix has officially unveiled the first look images of Zack Snyder's upcoming space epic. Headed to a completely new world, his new film Rebel Moon takes audiences on a journey to a far corner of the galaxy where a peaceful moon colony Veldt is forced to surrender their harvest to the militant Mother World.

A mysterious young woman embarks on a interstellar mission in attempt to protect her world, bringing together warriors from around the world to help fight the evil. The sci-fi epic is inspired by the classic 1954 Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai and is slated to be a two-part adventure that stars a major cast of galactic adventurers.

In a conversation with Vanity Fair Snyder shares, "I'm a glutton for punishment. I don't know why I always make an ensemble movie. I can't wait to not do that. But in the meantime, of course...I love it." He added, "This movie was me going, 'Of course it's a space opera, but let's not lens it that way. Let's lens it in a more intimate way, so that the sci-fi elements feel more grounded.' We're not always saying, 'Look at how big our spaceships are or how weird our planets look!' That happens, but it happens as an organic part of the world you're in. You're there, and so the things you see on that journey are not forced upon you or spoon-fed to you."

The upcoming project features a major cast including Ed Skrein who plays the Admiral Attiucs Noble, Sofia Boutella as Kora, the Imperium deserter who leaves the peaceful Veldt to fight back, Charlie Hunnam as Kai the mercenary pilot, Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, a Veldt farmer who tends to keep to himself, Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, Staz Nair as the noble indentured servant Tarak, Doona Bae as the cyborg sword master Nemesis, Ray Fiisher as the insurgent Darrian Bloodaxe, E. Duffy as refugee Milius, Fra Fee as the mighty Imperium official Regent Balisarius, Jena Malone the mysterious and deadly spider-being and Anthony Hopkins as an ancient robot knight called Jimmy.

Rebel Moon arrives on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
