We last checked in with Enve when it launched its ultra-light, 25-millimeter deep SES 2.2 wheel set. Now the company is bringing out the big guns with the new, deeper SES 7.8 wheel set. Like the 2.2, the 7.8 is offered in tubeless-compatible clincher or tubular versions; has Enve’s new textured braking surface and brake pads; and is optimized for 25mm tires.

Rim dimensions are 71mm deep and 29mm wide up front, and 80mm deep and 27.5mm rear. The 7.8 also uses different sidewall shapes front and rear. From the press release: “The changes to the sidewall curvature enable a better dynamic response to any directional changes in the flow field. This leads to a wheel that has better acceleration, less gust sensitivity, and is ultimately faster and less fatiguing from point A to B.” With Enve’s carbon road hubs, the clincher wheel set has a claimed weight of 1552 grams; tubular, 1342 grams. Prices start at $2375 for the tubular rim built with a DT-Swiss 350 hub and top out at $3500 for the clincher rim with Enve’s hubs. The SES 7.8 is shipping now.
