Eric Draven is coming back to the big screen in the long-awaited reboot of The Crow, and we now have a first look at Bill Skarsgård as the resurrected musician in the film. Three new images from the film reveal director Rupert Sanders’ vision for the classic comic book, and it’s very much in the spirit of the original film.

The film follows the plot of the original comic and the 1994 film, with Skarsgård exacting his revenge on a group of mysterious enemies who murdered him and his fiancée. The franchise has seen three films since the release of the original, along with a TV show, but has been dwindling when it comes to critical reception. The reboot aims to fix that while offering a modern take on the character.

The first look, revealed via Vanity Fair, gives us a glimpse of Skarsgård and FKA Twigs in the days before their murder, along with one showing Draven's descent into madness.

Sanders is no stranger to adaptations of popular franchises, having worked on the live-action Ghost in The Shell and Snow White and the Huntsman. The director also expressed hopes of a modern audience accepting and getting invested in the lead couple's love story, as the film spends more time with them alive than the previous incarnation.

“What drew me to this was the opportunity to make a dark romance, something that dealt with loss, grief, and the ethereal veil between life and death and reaching through that,” he said.

Bill Skarsgård may be known for playing Pennywise in the 'IT' films, but the actor has swiftly picked up

"I think the beauty of Bill is that he has a disturbing beauty, and as he transforms through his loss he becomes this thing that even he can’t control," said Sanders.

"It’s that famous line: ‘Whoever fights monsters must be careful that they don’t become one.’ That look was me in the ’90s when we were squat-raving in London, [mixed with some modern influences] like Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at him and go, ‘That guy is us.’”

The Crow stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, FKA Twigs as Shelly Webster, and Isabella Wei as Zadie. Other cast members include Danny Huston, Sami Bouajila, Jordan Bolger, and Laura Birn. The franchise is based on the 1989 comic book series by James O'Barr.

The Crow releases on July 7, 2024, in theaters worldwide.
