Finnish Ski Resort Celebrates First Snowfall With Plans To Open Soon

Levi Ski Resort, Finland, shared yesterday, September 19th, that it had received its first snowfall of the season.

The Facebook update documenting the snowfall contains several images of Levi's wintry conditions.

Powder covered Levi earlier this month after the resort shared a post explaining their use of snow preservation techniques. During the summer, Levi stores snow from the previous winter, allowing the winter to start the season with a leftover base. In that post, they said they would open for the winter season on October 6th.

While the snow shown here will probably melt (Levi noted that warmer weather is in the forecast), the October 6th opening date hasn't budged, likely due in part to LEvi's snow preservation efforts.

"The opening of the alpine and cross-country skiing season is celebrated on Friday, October 6th," the resort wrote in the September 19th Facebook update.

That's welcome if a bit hard to digest news. Usually, my local resort opens in early December. Thus, skiing in or outside a resort in a mere 16 days doesn't fully compute for me. The far-away promise of early-October skiing also makes me jealous.

But that's my problem. And, like any good skier, I'm excited for my fellow snowsports enthusiasts over at Levi.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I think it's safe to say that winter is officially "just around the corner" now for us skiers in the Northern Hemisphere. Keep those snow dances up!
