Netflix’s massively successful sci-fi series Stranger Things is gearing up for its fifth and final season, but the story won’t be ending there. In 2022, the show’s creators Matt and Ross Duffer, known as the Duffer brothers, revealed that the show would be continuing in the form of a spin-off. Details about the highly anticipated series have yet to be announced, but ST star Finn Wolfhard confirmed that he knows the show’s plot—not because he was given the scoop but all because of a lucky guess.

Finn appeared on The Tonight Show to promote his new movie When You Finish Saving the World when he opened up about how he figured out the show’s plot. “We were on-set filming Stranger Things 4 and we were all talking about if there’s going to be—like, joking, ‘Oh, they’re all going to have us back in 20 years and we’re all going to be fat and old,’ that kind of thing,” he began.

To the surprise of the Duffer brothers, Finn said, “‘But if you guys are actually going to do a spin-off, it should be this.’ And then I said it, and the Duffers looked at each other and looked at me and they were like, ‘Could we talk to you for a second?’ And then they pulled me off and they were like, ‘That is the idea. Who told you?’ and I was like, ‘No one,’ and they were like, ‘What do you mean? You just came up with it?’ and I was like, ‘Well, no, I just thought that that would be a cool way to expand.’”

After they all laughed off Finn’s lucky guess, he was sworn to secrecy. “It was really funny, and they were like, ‘Okay, well…don’t tell anyone,’” he added.

This isn’t the first time news of Finn’s discovery was made public. Back in May 2022, the Duffer brothers revealed that he was the only person who knew the spin-off’s plot. “We think everyone—including Netflix—will be surprised when they hear the concept because it’s very, very different,” the creators explained in an email to Variety. “But somehow, Finn Wolfhard—who is one crazy-smart kid—correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn, no one else knows!”
