Fine art fair, a carnival and a very big bounce house: 5 things to do this weekend

This weekend metro Detroit is packed with celebrations. In addition to honoring Mother’s Day, there are events to observe Mental Health Awareness Month and National Miniature Golf Day. Plus, don’t miss bouncing around in a 25,000-square-foot bounce park for a limited time.

Explore art in Birmingham, enjoy carnival rides and live entertainment in Berkley, participate in health and wellness activities in southwest Detroit, take a swing at miniature golf in Bloomfield Hills, and bounce at an expansive outdoor bounce park in Troy.

Here are five things to do for the weekend of May 10-12:

Funbox Detroit-Troy

Funbox, advertised as the world's largest bounce park, sprawls across 25,000 square feet of connected jumping zones that feature 10 different play areas for kids of all ages. Dive into exciting activities like the mountain challenge, battle beam, gumball gallop, obstacle course, and more.

This adventure awaits you through July 7 outside of Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile Road in Troy. Special grand opening tickets are priced at $18. Tickets at the door are $22 per person. Children aged 2 and younger are free.

Art Birmingham

Art Birmingham, originally known as the Birmingham Fine Art Festival, will celebrate its 43rd anniversary. The event will feature a diverse array of more than 150 artists at this fair produced in association with the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Alongside with the art showcase, attendees can enjoy live music, food trucks, Kids’s Art Activities Tent, and more.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Shain Park in downtown Birmingham.

Berkley Days Carnival 2024

This time-honored tradition will feature a carnival midway, craft show, food, live entertainment, beer tent, pancake breakfast, a 5K/10K/1 mile race, and more.

The festivities will run from 5-9 p.m. Thursday; 4-11 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Berkley Community Center, 2300 Robina in Berkley. $3 admission for ages 2 and older.

Southwest Greenway Health Crawl

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy will celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month by hosting a free health and wellness event that will feature blood pressure screenings, youth activities, resource tables from community organizations, music, healthy food options, and fitness classes like Zumba, stretch/recovery body care, walking meditation, and cardio drumming.

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Southwest Greenway, 2209 Bagley Street (corner of Bagley and 14th Street) in Detroit. Free. Register at Eventbrite.

Free mini golf this weekend at Cranbrook

Celebrate National Miniature Golf Day and Mother’s Day at Cranbrook on the Green, inspired by the art and design of Cranbrook’s rich heritage.

Challenge your putting skills on 10 custom-designed mini-golf art-inspired holes on the grounds of Cranbrook Art Museum next to the Knoll Walkway and Triton Pool.

With your ticket purchase for Cranbrook on the Green, receive free admission to Cranbrook Art Museum’s galleries, plus there will be one free admission for one special adult each day. Tickets can be purchased on site.

The mini-golf course will be open through Sept. 22 at Cranbrook Art Museum at 39221 Woodward Ave. in Bloomfield Hills. Visit the website for operation hours. Admission is $15 for adults; $10 for ArtMembers and Detroit residents; and $8 for children under 12.
