Finally, A Dress Shirt That Actually Stays Tucked In

On the occasions I need to look sharp and polished, my go-to outfit is always a slim dress shirt, narrow tie, flat-front trousers, and lace-up shoes.

While this standard way of dressing for many professional guys hasn't changed much over the years, neither has one major annoyance: the constant tucking in of your shirt after it inevitably bunches up around your waist.

The billowing fabric can end up making you look unkempt or sloppy. And despite attempted hacks, including tucking your shirt into your underwear for it to stay put, there hasn't been a permanent solution out there to solve this conundrum – until now.

After trying out Tommy John's newest product, the 'Stay-Tucked' Dress Shirt, I knew I'd no longer be buying dress shirts anywhere else.

Everything about the shirt's construction is designed with the same kind of function the brand's other products are known for (underwear that never rides up, socks that never roll down, etc.).

Here's how it works: the hem of the shirt is made of an elastic material that conforms to your hips, and is secured tightly with three snap-button closures at the bottom. It remains hidden underneath your pants so no one will ever know. The final part of the tucked-in equation involves a 360˚ underarm gusset in the armpit that allows for full motion, so you can reach up, raise your hands, or just go about your day and still be assured that your shirt stays tucked firmly in place, without feeling restricted.

So, whether you're at your desk all day, always on your feet, or somewhere in between, you'll never have to keep worrying about going to the bathroom to re-tuck your shirt ever again. It's just one less worry to have when thinking about what to wear to a meeting, presentation, or event. And really, who needs the hassle?

I wore the slim-fit version with back darts to give it that trim cut I like, but there's also a version with a back box pleat in a more classic fit. It comes in both white and sky blue for now, but here's hoping they'll add more colors in the future. Both shirts can be found on the Tommy John website, but they're also being sold at the King of Prussia Mall in suburban Philadelphia and their new store at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina, with more to come in 2019.
