Final Fantasy XVI PC Port Coming Later This Year With a Demo

Final Fantasy XVI

When the first trailer for Final Fantasy 16 came out, many fans were quick to spot that it ended with an "Also available on PC" tag. Nearly a year later, we now have confirmation that we won't have to wait long for it, as Final Fantasy series producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed its arrival in 2024.

The FF16 PC port will be released later this year, as per Yoshida's comments in an interview with Gameinformer. While talking about the state of the port, which is now entering the final stages of optimization, Yoshida revealed that it will be accompanied with a demo, just like the PS5 version.

"In terms of where we are in development currently, we're trying to figure out the final stages of optimization right now," Yoshida said. "When we can release the PC version might be dependent on that – the system requirements and specifications for PC that players will need, so we're trying to figure that out. Naturally, [the PC specifications] are looking to be somewhat high."

Given that the game was a PS5 exclusive, it's natural to assume that the PC port will demand high system requirements. Yoshida says that the development team, Creative Business Unit 3, will reveal the PC system requirements well ahead of its release.

"And to do that, we're looking to release a demo for the PC version as well," he said. "Again, we can't really talk about too much in terms of details of when it's going to come out – I think in a little bit more time we'll be in a better place to announce things. But one thing's for sure: It won't be too distant in the future; it won't be a year, it won't be two years, it will probably be shorter than that, so stay tuned."

The FF16 PC port was revealed late last year, right around the time the developer revealed plans for paid DLC. Since then, two DLC expansions have been announced - Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide. The former was released last year, while the latter is scheduled to come out this spring. Given that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's PC port included its DLC expansion, it looks like the same will be true for FF16.

Is it possible we'll see a PC port on the game's first anniversary in June? Yes, I wouldn't bet against that.
