Filippa K Embraces the Freedom of Solitude for FW23

Werner Herzog's 1974 documentary, The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, finds new life in Filippa K's Fall/Winter 2023 collection. Rooted in the film's themes of solitude and liberation, the range captures a profound sense of freedom.

Walter Steiner's ski jumping journey, portrayed in the film, becomes a muse for Filippa K's Creative Director, Liisa Kessler. Amid modern anxieties, Kessler aimed to embody Steiner's moments of escape, stating, "We want to take off to a lighter state of mind." The collection features monochrome silhouettes reminiscent of '70s ski jumpsuits, reimagined with a minimalist '90s twist.

Fabrics like crushed corduroy, raw denim and moleskin are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Sustainability takes center stage with faux furs and fuzzy knits, creating a warm and inviting aesthetic. Transparent layers evoke lightness and movement, echoing Steiner's flights.

The revival of waffle knit from Filippa K's archives and a handwritten monogram, inspired by vintage ski branding, add depth to the collection. Snakeskin prints embellish leather boots and accessories, reflecting Steiner's daredevil spirit.
