Fight Erupts at US Open of Surfing (Watch)

The annual beach bacchanalia (and peripheral surf contest), commonly known as the US Open of Surfing, is currently underway in Huntington Beach, Surf City, CA.

But away from the action in the water over the weekend, and instead on the sand amongst the throngs of inebriated teenagers, sign-wielding conspiracy theorists, and the occasional actual surfing fan, a fight broke out amongst two men on the beach.

Watch the first clip below; the second one further down.

It begins with the two men talking closely, intimately; but no, they are not about to to kiss. Instead, the two men going full UFC, headbutts and all, right there on the sand.

Here’s a selection of remarks from the comments section:

“Steroid buddies just need to kiss and get it over with. You were so close!”

“Occy!! No CURREN!!! No Occy!!!! CURREN!!!! Occy!!!!!”

“I was down there and one guy said they were supposedly friends and they were drunk, the black guy through [sic] water in the white guys face and it was supposedly vodka because he kept saying his eyes were burning. Just hearsay, I don’t know if that’s the truth.”

“Team Costco Wavestorm has now been disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct and sent packing back to the 91 east fwy.”

Of course, as previously hinted at before, the US Open is an event known for craziness like this. There was the infamous and utterly out-of-control riots back in 1986, when it was then known as the OP Pro, and hundreds of rioters set fire to cop cars and wreaked all-out havoc, supposedly kicked off from hordes of men jeering at two teen girls.

Then, in 2013, rampaging teens tore through Main Street – fighting, looting, knocking over signs, portapotties, etc. – before police hit the mob with teargas.

In the years since, the US Open has been scaled down, likely an attempt to avoid such wild behavior. But the tension is in the air; the memories still linger.

And this year’s US Open has just begun; the waiting period continues through next weekend.

Could this just be the start?
