Festival International kicks off its second day with an array of food vendors

(KLFY)– The 38th Annual Festival International kicked off its second day, with hundreds of performing artists and vendors from at least 15 different countries who came together for five days of excitement. News 10 spoke to a couple of food vendors on what they expect to bring to the festival this year.

With more than 300,000 attendees expected at this year’s festival, this annual event looks to be an entertainment mecca like no other. Aside from entertainment, there’s also lots of food from different cultures to try. For vendor Destination India, Shawn Muganathan, an employee, said it is their first Festival International.

“This is the first time we have been invited to be a participant in the festival,” Muganathan said.

With much Indian cuisine dishes to serve, such as butter chicken and rice, samosas and chicken biryani, Destination India owner Murugan Mani, said it’s what the festival is all about.

“We came from a different part of the world, providing an authentic Indian cuisine,” Everyone can try it out. That’s what it’s all about,” Mani said.

Umami Bites, another vendor, said they have been participating in the festival for six years. They provide many food choices from Chile, such as pork wonton tacos, and Vietnamese spring rolls. Marites Khrone said Festival International is their favorite festival to attend.

“We travel pretty much all around the country, and this festival is probably one of my favorites,” Khrone said.

She said the organizers of the festival do a great job presenting the festival every year and looks forward to coming back for many more years to come.

“They do such an excellent job as far as getting different music around the country, and we just love the area,” Khrone said.
