Will Ferrell Goes ‘Old School,’ Crashes Son’s USC Frat Party to Guest DJ

Two decades years after teaching impressionable youth proper streaking techniques in Old School, Will Ferrell has reprised his role of Frank the Tank. But this time it’s not on the big screen. Ferrell went viral after he dropped by a University of Southern California frat party to guest DJ—just as Frank does in the movie—while paying his son a visit.

Ferrell took his place behind the booth and danced along to Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” as revelers from the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity partied around him. Wearing a massive set of headphones and a backward baseball cap, the Barbie CEO looked every bit the part.

The surprise appearance took place during USC’s Trojan Family Weekend and preceded the school’s football game against the University of Arizona’s Wildcats.

Coincidentally enough, the legendary Anchorman star graduated from USC in 1990 with a BA in sports information. After applying his degree to a string of sports-centric comedies in the early aughts, Ferrell returned to the college in 2017 to give a commencement address.

Ferrell and his wife, Vivica Paulin, share three children: Axel, 13; Mattias, 16; and Magnus, 19, who attends USC and can be seen in the background of the video cheering his father on. Back in 2008, he offered his Bewitched co-star Nicole Kidman some parenting advice as she welcomed a daughter with Keith Urban, via People magazine.

“Talk to your children at least once a week,” Ferrell cautioned Kidman. “If you’ve got time, do it two or three times a week. But otherwise, I find the times where I let weeks and weeks go by without talking to my children, that adds up.”

He probably didn’t mention how often one should DJ with their children and about 100 of their closest friends.
