Spoiler warning for The Mandalorian episode "The Tragedy."

  • Immoral sharpshooter Fennec Shand was returned in the Mandalorian episode "The Tragedy" after being introduced in Season 1.

  • Played by Ming-Na Wen, she's one of the most memorable and formidable characers in the series.

  • She appeared to have been killed in Season 1, but the world of Star Wars and The Mandalorian had it otherwise.

The headliner for character returns in The Mandalorian's Season 2 episode 6, "The Tragedy," of course, is going to be Boba Fett. But it's a character that Boba Fett—literally—brought back to life that's keeping our interest here, and that's the badass imperial mercenary sharpshooter known as Fennec Shand.

Fennec (played by Ming-Na Wen, best known for voicing Mulan and her role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) first showed up in The Mandalorian's first season, flexing her muscles as a dangerous assassin for a few scenes before she was seemingly killed off. At the end of the episode, though, we saw a caped man with spurs in his boots approaching her body—and as we learned in "The Tragedy," that caped figure was Boba Fett. Boba gave Fennec's gut, where she was shot, the 'Luke Skywalker Robot Hand' treatment, saving her life.

As a result, Fennec is now Boba Fett's traveling companion and a loyal sharpshooter, helping him to get his armor back from Mando (who got it earlier in the season from Cobb Vanth).

"The Tragedy" finds Fennec doing a lot of what she's best at—being a badass mercenary killer, here taking out stormtroopers. The good news for Mando? This time she's on his side—and it seems like she'll be on his side as he continues his quest to protect Grogu for the remainder of this season at the very least.

When did we see Fennec Shand before?

Fennec was first introduced in the show's fifth episode, an "elite mercenary" that we learn right off the bat is extremely dangerous. When the inexperienced scoundrel Toro Calican wants to bring her in as his bounty, The Mandalorian immediately warns him: she's killed for all the top crime syndicates (including Jabba the Hutt and others like him), and if you go after her, you won't be around much longer.

Still, Toro convinces Mando to help him pursue her. The two manage to track her down, and while Fennec proves a worthy fight (she takes on the two men more than competently) they do eventually manage to capture her. At this point, though, she starts to play mind games, asking The Mandalorian about his home planet, and, once The Mandalorian leaves, getting into Toro's head.

She tells Toro that Mando is wanted by the guild, and that freeing her and bringing him in would make him a legend. He thinks he's outsmarting her by killing her and turning his attention to capturing him; he shoots Fennec, appearing to kill her.

But as we saw at the end of the episode, Fennec might not be dead just yet. As a mysterious caped figure—which turned out to be Boba Fett—walks up by her body, this character seems just a little too capable, and a little too cool to be disarmed and killed after just a single brief appearance. You also have to consider her mentioning her planned rendezvous earlier in the episode.

Since there is no Empire anymore, she's strictly a hired mercenary, so whoever hired her is working independently. Most likely, she was planning on meeting up with the character who finds her at the end of the episode (with both probably working on a plan to capture Baby Yoda), and it's likely that he'll be able to bring her back in at least partial, and likely full capacity. Let's be real—Toro Calican is a clown. He probably couldn't have killed a pro like Fennec Shand even if he tried (which, to be clear, he did).

And let's just say he was successful (though it doesn't seem likely). In only a few lines, this character has already had some very impressive lore built around her; she is confirmed as extremely dangerous.

And now in Season 2, it's no shock to see her show up again and doing what she's so great at —sharpshooting.

We thought we hadn't seen the last of this ruthless mercenary just yet, and with two episodes left in Season 2 and a kidnapped Baby Yoda, we think there's gonna be plenty more of Fennec to come.
