Rejoice if you are born in the year of the rooster or the horse, for 2017 looks set to be a great one for you.

In contrast, those who were born in the year of the monkey look set to have a tough year ahead.

That is according to the forecast of Dato’ Joey Yap, a celebrated figure in the world of fengshui and founder of the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics.

Yap was speaking at the launch of his “Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology for 2017” book on Friday (18 Nov), targeted at enthusiasts and believers.

The book took a month of research by his team of researchers and students on aspects of astrology, such as the positions of the different stars. A further two months were needed to compile the information and produce the book itself.

While those born in the year of the rooster or horse are forecasted to have a good year ahead, Yap warns it all boils down to an individual.

“My book will tell you the general forecast for what’s in store but it’s how you make use of the information that makes the difference,” Yap told Yahoo Singapore.

“Knowing something and using something is two different thing. If you are not doing something about it then nothing will happen right.”

Yap added that the character of the person is crucial as well. If one is afraid of opportunities or success, then it will be of “no use to you”.

“When it’s a good year, normally three things will happen,” he explained.

“Job-wise, there will be opportunities. If you are someone who can take the pain, go for it; this is it. At first every change looks bad but once you get the hang of it, you will move forward.

“But also you need to be the best that you can be in any field. If you are not the best people will just take your position anytime.”

Those who were born in the year of the monkey on the other hand, will not be receiving much opportunities, Yap said.

However, he emphasised the fact that it is not “the end of the world” and there is still a chance to turn it around.

“That doesn’t mean it’s bad, it’s just that you got to work twice as hard because the universe is not providing this year, so you’ve got to search in places you’ve never searched before,” Yap stated.

“To turn it around, that depends what you’ve been doing in 2015 and 2016. If you’ve been building up your savings for rainy days, guess what, next year is rainy day, you’ve got to cash in your cheque.”

The book also offers the annual outlooks, auspicious and inauspicious starts for all 12 animals signs of the Chinese zodiac and a complete month-by-month analysis based on your day of brith.

The book now out on sale at the Times bookstores and costs $19.
