Feminist Amber Rose Wants to Destigmatize the Walk of Shame

Amber Rose has risen from the ashes of her public slut shaming to become a prominent and outspoken feminist. In her latest stunt for the sake of equality, she’s filmed a short for Funny or Die with the intent to destigmatize the walk of shame.

The video, posted Tuesday, begins with Rose sneaking out of her one night stand’s home in a tight black leather dress with large gold earrings, carrying her pink high heels, effusing an after-sex glow and smile instead of holding her head down in embarrassment. On her stroll, she’s met by people whose stereotypically judgmental roles are subverted: the milkman gives her a thumbs up, an elderly woman playing chess admits that in her she day she was “no stranger to the walk of shame,” and a man in a black truck yells out that Rose is an inspiration to his daughter. “I respect that you enjoyed yourself last night,” a construction worker calls out, a sincere form of catcalling. “I think we can all agree, having sex is fun.” The mayor even gave her the key to the city. “You’re confident in the choices you make and your ability to celebrate your body,” he explains. The 31-year-old responds that she always celebrates her body (sometimes twice a day).

Matt McGory, of Orange Is the New Black and How to Get Away With Murder, plays Rose’s one night stand and he chases her down in a white undershirt to tell her she forgot to leave her number. “No, I didn’t,” and she rolls her eyes and walks away. McGory, a self-proclaimed male feminist, posted the video to his Facebook wall with a note saying he was “thrilled” to be involved. “If only we lived in a world where people didn’t treat women with these massive double standards,” he wrote. “This video is not encouraging women or other genders to be “promiscuous,” it’s encouraging a society where we don’t judge women and call them “hoes” for the same reason that we’d give a guy a pat on the back and call them a “pimp."” He added that “you don’t have to want one night stands for yourself to honor and respect a(nother) women’s choice to.”

This sketch comes just a few weeks after Rose and her friend Black Chyna wore custom outfits covered in “every derogatory word towards women” they could think of to the MTV VMAs. “We’re your entrepreneurs, we’re moms, and we’re sexual beings. We’re just embracing being happy and being women,” Rose, who has a son with rapper Wiz Khalifa, said on the red carpet. Additionally, Kanye West’s ex is spearheading a Slut Walk in Los Angeles. The Amber Rose Slut Walk is taking place on on October 2.
