“Ash + Chess is one of my favorite small businesses, whih also happens to be queer- and trans-owned. I love their designs, because they strike the perfect balance of bold messaging and creative color combinations.” —Ingrid Nilsen (she/her), co-founder and chief creative at The New Savant

Pride is rooted in protest. The origins of Pride Month trace back to June 1969 when members of the LGBTQ community rebelled against police raids at The Stonewall Inn in New York City. Over the following decades, the community and its allies have continued to fight for basic rights, including speaking out against the record-breaking number of anti-LGBTQ laws that have been introduced this year in state legislatures across the country.
During Pride, this fight takes on many forms, including powerful celebration—the kind that’s loud, free, joyful, and often fashionable. “Pride is all about being emboldened, confident, and fearless,” Jake DuPree, international burlesque performer, tells ELLE.com. “Pride is the time to express yourself as openly as possible.” In that spirit, ELLE.com asked folks—from drag queen Sasha Colby to actor Justin David Sullivan—what they’re most excited to wear throughout Pride Month.
Every Body Is A Good Body T-Shirt
Ingrid Nilsen (she/her), co-founder and chief creative at The New Savant: “Ash + Chess is one of my favorite small businesses that also happens to be queer- and trans-owned. I love their designs, because they strike the perfect balance of bold messaging and creative color combinations.”
Piccolo Ubud One-Shoulder Feather-Trimmed Crepe Mini Dress
Emira D’Spain, model and content creator: “I’m so excited to wear this Taller Marmo dress during Pride with a pair of gold heels and peachy makeup. It’s so fun and flowy but also chic. Feathers feel like such a celebratory accent to any outfit, and this dress brings the drama! It makes me feel prideful, because it’s so extravagant and fun—Pride is the time to go all out and really take glam to the next level.”
Raquel Quartz Three-Hand Pave Silver-Tone Stainless Steel Limited Edition Watch
Sasha Colby, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15: “I love this Michael Kors watch, because I love all things that sparkle and shine. The rainbow accent is so beautiful—just looking at it brings a proud smile to my face. Y’all know what time it is!”
Mid-Calf Leather Boots
Justin David Sullivan (he/she/they), singer, actor, and artist: “This Pride season, you will catch me stomping the sidewalks in these epic boots from my favorite queer-owned femme footwear brand, SYRO. Nothing makes me feel more slay than strutting down the streets of Manhattan in a fierce chunky boot, so if you’re looking for a confidence boost this Pride—look no further.”
Peacock Blue 3-Piece Lingerie Set
Jake DuPree (they/them), international burlesque performer: “Pride is all about being emboldened, confident, and fearless. As a non-binary person, I take gender affirming care very seriously. For me, I get a lot of that care from how I perform and how I choose to present myself. Lingerie has always been an incredibly sacred thing to me. I remember being a kid and parading around in my grandmother’s silk nightgowns and costume jewelry, and you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t Jessica Rabbit! Growing up and becoming this queer adult has allowed me to let that kid live happily and freely again. That kid learned to hide who they were because of merciless bullying, and now they finally get to spread their wings and feel beautiful. I chose this Honey Birdette set because I want this gorgeous color to help me stand out amongst the crowd and hold my shoulders back and strut like I am the entire parade! Pride is the time to express yourself as openly as possible, and I choose to feel proud of my body and be proud to wear a brand who supports all identities and thinks lingerie is for all! Tip: I’ll be wearing another thong under the thong, just to make sure everything is held in, so that I feel comfortable. One day, I hope to create a lingerie line that will do that already. Stay tuned!”
Nike Premium Rainbow Fade Lanyard
Celeste Yim, supervising writer and comedian known for their work on Saturday Night Live (e.g. “Trend Forecasters” with Bowen Yang and Aidy Bryant):
“My favorite accessory for Pride Month is a lanyard to hold my keys. The lanyard is the perfect successor to the carabiner. People with social power wear lanyards: CEOs with corporate badges, teachers, VIP section members, security guards, college students. They make keys easy to pull out of a bag. They come in every possible color/pattern/fabric imaginable. They can be styled in so many ways (around the neck, hanging out of the pocket, wrapped around a wrist). And most of all, they are horny. You can buy them at Home Depot, gift stores, gas stations, or you can get one at an exclusive event and repurpose it to be the perfect gay accessory all year long.”
Blue Gradient Maxi Dress
Ericka Hart (she/they), sexuality educator and writer: “Pride is such a beautiful time of community and liberatory expression that I want to be as naked as possible! So this sheer dress by Ottolinger is what I’m excited to wear.”
DAVIS Body Luggage™
Ericka Hart (she/they), sexuality educator and writer: “And since every queer person will be outside, I gotta be able to avoid my exes, so this body luggage piece by Black designer Mia Wright-Ross is easy to wear and lets you navigate in or out of a crowd quickly!”
Zip Off Camouflage Pants
Saint Harison (he/him), artist: “My new favourite camo pants from Lazy Oaf—super baggy look with sick, signature Lazy Oaf prints and patterns, and they unzip into the shorts. Perfect for the summer. I think Pride is such an amazing time to express yourself with bold prints and fashion statements, and Lazy Oaf ticks all the boxes for inclusive, genderless clothes.”
Slay the Stage Platform Boots
Adore Delano, singer, songwriter, and actress: “I’m most excited to show off my sober summer body with this matching set from Club Exx paired with their stoned glitter boots, which ties the look together for me. No need to spend thousands of dollars when you can give the fans access to the things you wear on stage.”
