Feather Brows Are Here and the Internet Is Freaking Out

You have to see how they’re styled.

In today’s bizarre beauty news, Finnish makeup artist Stella Sironen has invented what she calls “feather brows” and the Internet is having a field day with them.

In an Instagram photo first posted four days ago, Stella wrote, “So I’m starting this new brow trend please recreate it and wear it everyday and don’t forget to tag me like and subscribe and hit that bell button.” She went on to give credit where credit was due: To “my muse @leevittu. He came up with this whilst brushing my eyebrows last Sunday.” The image already has 44,000 likes and counting.

It turns out, though, that the makeup artist was joking when she first posted about the trend she was starting. But no one seemed to get the humor and, thus, took her seriously, starting one of the most brow-raising (no pun intended) beauty trends of late. In a second posting on Instagram two days later, Stella wrote, “note to self: when u make a joke about starting a funny brow trend people will take it seriously and…well. start the trend.” She goes on to tag it #featherbrows. So a trend was born.

The brows take on a featherlike look from their parted-down-the-middle styling, which requires a glue stick to achieve the affect. Yes, you read that right: a glue stick. We are cringing a little trying to figure out how she washed off that sticky elementary school art product when she, you know, didn’t want her brows look like a feather anymore.

There is no shortage of head-scratching beauty trends around, so this one is par for the course, as far as we’re concerned. That's not to mention that, between the “100-layers” challenges from last year to succulent-inspired nails, unicorn hair, and the like, the feather brows seem tame (if you can even believe it).

The jury's still out on how difficult glue is to remove from your tender eyebrow hairs, but we’re not exactly jumping at the chance to test feather brows out for the world. We’ll let someone else take that one for the team.
