The Favourite trailer: first look at Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman's bawdy Queen Anne drama
After tackling anthropomorphic dating in The Lobster and Greek tragedy in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Greek director Yorgose Lanthimos is about to give his own unique take on English history: more specifically, the intense love affair between Queen Anne and her advisor Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough.
In his new film The Favourite, which now has a first teaser trailer, Olivia Colman plays the Queen and Rachel Weisz stars as Churchill, whose close relationship with her majesty is threatened by the arrival of her younger cousin Abigail (played by Emma Stone).
Described by the producers as "a bawdy, acerbic tale of royal intrigue, passion, envy, and betrayal", The Favourite also stars Mark Gatiss, Joe Alwyn, and Nicholas Hoult. The UK release date is January 1, 2019.
