Is your favorite Coachella Valley restaurant closed for the summer? Here's a guide

Summer life in the desert slows down as the temperatures heat up.

As fewer tourists mill about the Coachella Valley and snowbirds fly north, some popular restaurants shut down, too. Across the valley and high desert, here are 18 eateries (and a couple bars) that are taking a summer break or reducing their hours.

Closed for summer:

Palm Springs

  • Johnny Costa's Ristorante, now closed and reopening Sept. 1*

  • Peninsula Pastries, now closed and reopening Sept. 7

  • John Henry's Cafe, now closed and reopening Sept. 22

  • Tyler's Burgers, now closed and reopening Sept. 1

  • Miro's, now closed and reopening Aug. 31

  • Café Mon Amour, now closed and reopening Sept. 1

  • Jake's, now closed and reopening "end of September"

Cathedral City

  • Michael's Cafe, now closed and reopening Sept. 1

La Quinta

  • Stuft Pizza, now closed (for renovation) and no reopening date has been set

High Desert

  • La Copine, now closed and reopening Sept. 1

Closing soon:

  • Birba (Palm Springs), will be closed July 16-Sept. 1

  • Oceans (Cathedral City) will be closed July 17-Sept. 3

  • Copley's on Palm Canyon (Palm Springs), will be closed July 23-Aug. 31

  • Townie Bagels (Palm Springs), will be closed July 23-Aug. 1 (for kitchen maintenance)

  • Sweet Basil (Palm Desert) will be closed July 31-Sept. 5

Reduced hours:

  • Gelatto Granucci (Palm Springs), closed Tuesdays for the time being

  • Las Palmas Brewing (Palm Springs), closed Monday-Tuesday and open 5-10 p.m. Wednesday; 1-10 p.m. Thursday; noon-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday July-September

  • Sixth Street Coffee (Coachella), open 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday; 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday; and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday July 10-Aug. 21

  • Willie's (Rancho Mirage), open Wednesday-Saturday from 5 p.m.

  • Slice Italia (La Quinta and Rancho Mirage), open for dinner 4-9 p.m. (and happy hour 4-6 p.m.) daily until October
