There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

The Brief

Here's my bedtime conundrum: I like sleeping all cozied up in my own personal pillow fort, but even before I drift off, I'm already sweating. It's a common problem, but no less frustrating. I tried sleeping with lighter layers like quilts and jersey top sheets on my bed during the warmer seasons, but they're just so unsatisfyingly thin — as a lifelong side-sleeper, this will never do. Having a high fluff index in my bedding is simply non-negotiable.

Can cool and cuddly coexist in a bedding product? Buffy's Breeze Comforter is the only layer of its kind that I've found that proves it possible. It's been my main comforter since 2019, and I wouldn't dream of kicking it out of bed at this point.

The Buffy Breeze is unique in that it's a completely plant-based comforter. The Breeze's cover and inner fill are entirely comprised of eucalyptus fiber (aka Tencel), which is soft, smooth, and cuddly like cotton, but it's also slightly better at keeping you cool. As well as being a naturally derived material, eucalyptus fiber is also vegan and cruelty-free.

This bedding layer is soft without being stifling, and it seems to absorb cool air as adeptly as it wicks away body heat. I no longer feel like I'm roasting underneath a heavy comforter while the air conditioner keeps the rest of my bedroom cool. Also, unlike other comforters that make a crinkling sound, the Buffy Breeze is silent. It's thicker than a quilt but not as weighty as a regular comforter, so it meets my cuddly criteria.

The Buffy Breeze is also the epitome of what an all-season comforter should be. Its smooth, breathable texture and light weight are simply essential during summertime heat waves. And even if you'd think that these same qualities wouldn't work as well in the wintertime, think again. If you tend to sleep hot (like me), the material helps to regulate body temperature so that I feel insulated but not stifled. Even if a large, weighty down comforter feels so cozy upon sliding into bed on a cold night, it doesn't take long before the night sweats kick in.

It's just important to keep in mind that while you can sleep with it without a duvet cover to enjoy the cool-to-the-touch eucalyptus material right next to your skin, it's not recommended since this is a dry clean-only piece. I sleep under the Buffy Breeze with an airy linen duvet cover, and although this does mute the cooling benefits of the material, it doesn't completely cancel them out.

Closing Argument

If you're looking for the best cooling bedding you can buy, I highly recommend the Buffy Breeze Comforter. Its eucalyptus-based material is so satisfyingly cool, but even when it's encased in a duvet cover, the blanket itself is lightweight and breathable. It's expertly crafted inside and out, and it's the ideal bedding layer for all seasons.

And if all of that isn't enough to make you rest easy, Buffy also offers a 7-night free trial, so you can try out the comforter first before committing.
