Greta Gerwig released a movie in 2023, which means that the Oscars 2024 will be like going to Prom.

Sandra Hüller was one of the first major nominees to arrive to the red carpet, and she wore an elegant black dress with sharp wing-like over the shoulder sleeves. You’ve seen the discourse: peplums are back. Emma Stone wore an exaggerated peplum mint dress, and Lupita Nyong’o wore a periwinkle halter dress with a feather peplum. Margot Robbie played with everyone’s Barbie-related expectations by wearing a molded black leather dress.

The Barbie press tour was a fashion month of its own, the actresses opting to dress in homage to vintage archival Barbies was a stunt to say the least. So on the film industry’s big night out, you better believe the Oscars 2024 fashion will not play. While she’s not nominated this year, Zendaya is the reigning champion of red carpets, and even though Law Roach announced his retirement from styling, the work they do together is so much bigger than a styling credit. Actresses like Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone, Greta Lee, and Sandra Hüller have all made major entrances this awards season. Of course, Billie Eilish has carved out a fashion identity for herself over the years too.

Lily Gladstone has been representing Native and Indigenous fashion into her public appearances, so a major moment in that realm is to be expected, and if so, the Oscars should be truly humbled. In addition to her stellar performance, she seems to be using her visibility to champion her community and other Native communities alike. For Margot Robbie and the rest of the Barbie girls, tonight represents the end of an era as this will be their last night out dressed in Barbie eleganza.

The Oscars are actually a double feature for fashion fans, because when the ceremony ends, the Vanity Fair after-party begins, and A-listers never go to the VF party in the same thing they wore to the Oscars. We will be updating this list as the night goes on.
