Demand for designer trainers continues to grow - and French first lady Brigitte Macron is the latest convert, swapping her signature heels for £780 Louis Vuitton trainers.

"I will confess to having a YSL pair which were eye-wateringly expensive," says Marianne Jones. "I've literally worn them to death, but even so, the cost per wear is maybe about £1.50 - they were that expensive."

"I love a Golden Goose, and they are not cheap," says Kat Farmer. "You can usually get hold of them in the sale, which is great, but they're £300, £400. And the worst thing is, the first pair I bought home, my daughter did turn round and say, 'did you get them from the charity shop?', because they have that vintage look."
